Manuel Marrero Cruz, Minister of Tourism, ratified in Havana his satisfaction with the results of the International Fair of the sector, FitCuba-2019, demonstrated not only in the new agreements signed with foreign companies but also in the wide acceptance among Cubans of offers to vacation, announced on the last day of the event.
In statements to the press during a tour of works of the sector that are executed in greeting to the 500 years of Havana, as an example -and as a preliminary figure- he pointed out that in the first three hours of this popular fair in La Cabaña, on Saturday, more than 300 thousand CUC had been commercialized in the sale of tourist packages for the summer and the rest of the year.
These are excursions, reservations for all-inclusive hotels and houses, he said, and reiterated that the great event, dedicated to Havana and Spain as the guest country, more than fulfilled its objectives not only because of the record number of tour operators, professionals and firms, but also because of the contracts, negotiations and perspectives that arose there, and the organization and lucidity of the meeting itself.
This is more significant because it happens when the U.S. government, with the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, intends to intensify the blockade, isolate us and discourage travel; however, the fair showed that Cuba is not isolated, no one came here with fear, nor with pretensions to withdraw their business, on the contrary, we received support and the willingness to expand, said Marrero Cruz.
In the company of Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana, and Reinaldo García Zapata, president of the government in the territory, the head of the Ministry of Tourism toured a group of works for the accommodation and recreation of national and foreign visitors, in which details were needed for the sake of quality, comfort and exploitation according to international standards.
Issues related to signage, food, the integrity of services and offers to tourists, the availability of wifi networks and everything that can make them feel at home, and with the desire to return and recommend Cuba to others, were seen with investors, builders and local authorities.
This is what happened at the Guanabito- Mi hacienda, of the Palmares group, in the vicinity of Campo Florido, in East Havana, whose remodeling of that gastronomic facility will not only increase the capacity to attend hundreds of visitors daily, but will also bring them closer to rural life, to know how Cuban peasants live.
Other works that will soon come into operation, and whose execution was confirmed by the leaders, are the cafeteria El Trébol with its bar Ebony and Ivory, in the Via Blanca, also in the beaches of the East; and the coffee Boulevard - beautifully renovated - of Galiano and San Rafael, in Centro Habana.
The tour concluded at the 1830 gastronomic complex, which in addition to restoring the patrimonial property, has been remodeled into almost disused spaces to turn them into an air-conditioned cafeteria, a bar for the sale of wines and an area for karaoke.
They also inaugurated the Vedado Azul hostel, the first in Cuba for the accommodation of groups of friends or students interested in touring the city, learn about its heritage, under the principle that unlike a hotel in a room can stay several people by having comfortable bunk beds.
